Veterans urge MoD to end anomaly in death benefits of casualties between troops deployed on LoC , IB and LoAC

Leh(Ladakh), October 18, (Scoop News)-Notwithstanding the specific instructions issued by the former Union defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, regarding discontinuation of the incongruity between the army personnel deployed along the Line of Control (LoC), International Border (IB) and the Line of Actual Control (LoAC) in death benefits for casualties.
According to well informed sources, the rules, at present, are at variance for such casualties on deployment of troops facing Pakistan on western border and China on the eastern border.
The sources said the Union Ministry of Defence (MoD) was castigated by the members of a high level committee which was constituted by the government in 2015 for causing inordinate delay in the implementation of the recommendations made by the field commanders. The army too has been in constant touch with the ministry on the vexed issue but without any positive response till date, they added.
The sources further said deaths other than conflict related casualties have been taking place along LoAC due to extreme climatic conditions or otherwise but they were being denied the rightful allowances entitled to them while comparing the same to similar casualties in other areas on LoC and IB as notified by the army.
According to these sources, following the revised pension scheme, the compensation entitlement is permitted for deaths in areas covered by notified military operations which included maintenance of internal security duties, guarding of LoC and IB. The duties, along LoAC, had not been announced by the government since it was initiated in 1986 to prevent Chinese intrusions due to diplomatic wisdom.
