Rana pins hopes with MHA team visiting borders; seeks central funding audit by Union Secretaries panel

Nagrota ,November 11, (Scoop News)- National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Saturday hoped that the visit of high level Ministry of Home Affairs delegation will ultimately fructify in mitigating the difficulties of border dwellers along Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, who are continuously braving the brunt of unprovoked shelling from across the border.
“The visit of the central delegation is appreciation of grave concerns of the border people by the Union Home Minister Mr Rajnath Singh, who visited some of these areas recently”, Mr Rana said while addressing workers meetings in his Nagrota Assembly Constituency during day-long visit of nine panchayats.
He said three crucial years have passed but nothing has been done for instilling sense of security among the border people and hoped that bunkers, shelter sheds, allotment of five marla plots and jobs under a special drive will be initiated and accomplished in a time bound manner. These are long pending demand of the people who have got nothing except lofty promises before, during and after 2014 elections, he said, adding that a humane approach is needed in addressing to the difficulties of people in distress.
Mr Rana also reiterated his demand of deputing an empowered Union Secretaries team to audit the utilization of central funding under various centrally schemes and reasons for chronic developmental inertia in the state. Such an initiative, he said, has become all the more necessary as the people are disenchanted with functioning of the PDP-BJP dispensation, which is hugely suffering from governance deficit that has resulted in developmental paralysis during the past three years. He said the public perception with regard to working of the government is detrimental to the larger interests of the state, which is reeling under a crisis like situation. He hoped that the concerns of the people would be addressed that will pave way for restoring peace and normalcy.
The Provincial President described the assessment of border areas by a central team as a tacit admission of failure by the state government in assuaging the aspirations of border people. He referred to his recent visit to some forward areas and expressed anguish over the plight of the people, who feel threatened on various counts, especially as the winter has set in. He said the economic activity of these places has come to halt and the future of children remains in jeopardy, as they keep moving to safer places after frequent intervals due to shelling.

The MLA Nagrota said the situation in the hinterland is no better due to wrong policies and unfounded priorities of the coalition government. This insensitive dispensation has failed on all fronts and the recent Jammu Bandh stands testimony to growing resentment and dejection among the people. He said the government is not seen visible anywhere on ground except for making tall claims through handouts and press statements.
“The people of Jammu are feeling a sense of neglect and deprivation, as the BJP has failed in keeping its commitments”, Mr Rana said and referred to defunct utility services, erratic power and drinking water supply, scarcity of rations and above all rising prices. The life has become really difficult for the common man, he said, hoping the government to switch over to functional mode after interval of its tenure. The past three months, he said, have been nightmarish with dismal performance in each sector.
Responding to the local issues, the MLA assured the people that he has been pursing these with concerned agencies vigorously besides pushing the developmental agenda forcefully so that the on-going schemes are completed within stipulated time frame. He said his priority is to have the most needed works and facilities in place out of his Constituency Development Fund, so that the benefits accrue to targeted population.
Mr Rana sanctioned Rs 5 lakhs under Constituency Development Fund for Gorda to Lassu road besides a 25 KVA transformer to be installed at Chakhar.
On the occasion, several prominent workers of the BJP joined National Conference. Mr Rana welcomed the new entrants into the party fold and hoped that their joining into the party will further strengthen the party at the grass roots level.
