| World Heritage week inaugurated at JU | |
Jammu, November 20, (Scoop News)-World Heritage week being observed by the Centre for Studies in Museology and Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani Museum of Heritage in collaboration with Department of Dean Students Welfare and Institute of Music and Fine Arts, University of Jammu was inaugurated here today by Prof. R. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
Every year ‘World Heritage Week’ is observed worldwide from 19th November to 25th November following a special theme.
The Vice Chancellor also inaugurated the photo exhibition on the theme’ Nature and People. The exhibition showcased the Natural World Heritage sites and the natural heritage sites of Jammu. This was followed by the cultural program which included ‘Nukkad Natak’ on preservation of tangible heritage by the heritage club of K.C public school, Akhnoor Road, Vocal and Dance performances by IMFA on the lesser known aspects of intangible heritage, the program ended with the Skit on ‘Rich heritage of India today and tomorrow’ by the scholars of Centre for Studies in Museology other departments of the University.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor underscored the need to uphold and protect the rich and invaluable culture of India. He gave beautiful examples of other countries where the steps of protection of environment have been taken for economic development. He also suggested the Centre for Studies in Museology to take outreach programmes so that students of different schools can have the knowledge of our cultural and natural heritage.
Earlier, in her welcome address Dr. Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare motivated students regarding safeguarding the heritage.
Prof. Poonam Chaudhary, Director, Centre for studies in Museology and Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts elaborated on this year’s theme of World Heritage Week ‘Nature and People’. Prof. Poonam Chaudhary sketched vividly the interrelationship and inter-connectedness between human culture and natural systems. She explained the importance of cultural and natural heritage of India as well as Jammu which have ‘Outstanding Universal Value’ from the aesthetic and scientific point of view. She also described the future plan of the Centre to provide training to the general people concerning protection of our intangible cultural and natural heritage.
A power-point presentation on Intangible Cultural Heritage, Lesser known musical forms etc. was also presented by Ms. Deepali Singha and scintillating musical and dance performance highlighting the rich tradition and culture of the country and a skit on the heritage of India marked the inaugural programme by artists from Institute of Music and Fine Arts.
The cultural programme ended with vote of thanks presented by Dr. Malay Dey, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu.The program was coordinated and compered by Ms. Tushita Pandey who is also serving as programme coordinator for the four long day exhibition. Schools that participated in the cultural event are K.C. Public School, K.C. Gurukul, J.K. Public School, Heritage School. Besides this colleges under Cluster University including G.C.W. Parade College, also participated enthusiastically.
