2-day workshop on ‘Learning the Craft of Writing’ begins at CUK

Srinagar, November 20, (Scoop News)-The two-day workshop on ‘Learning the Craft of Writing’ organized jointly by the Departments of English and Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), began at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, Director Seminars, IIPA (J&K Chapter) Prof. S M Afzal Qadri, Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, noted columnists Mr. Ajaz-ul-Haque and Dr. Ajaz A Baba, Coordinators Department of English and Convergent Journalism, Dr. Ihsan ur Rahim Malik and Dr. Asif Khan, Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators of Departments and students were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din Mir said the art of writing as well as communicating is very important and essential in every field. He said number of researches have been conducted wherein it has been found that those doing exceptionally good in writing are not got orators and vice-versa. He asked the students to pose questions to the experts in order to gain more knowledge about writing skills from the workshop.
Director Seminars, (IIPA) Prof. S M Afzal Qadri said the job of our institution is to provide the platform to the students to discuss the prevailing issues in the society and in this connection, this workshop on learning the craft of writing has been organized. He said the art of writing is just like any other art.
Producer EMMRC, University of Kashmir and Greater Kashmir Columnist, Mr. Ajaz-ul-Haque, underscored the importance and need of learning the art and craft of writing, particularly for the budding journalists. He quoted the lines of Ernest Hemingway on creative writing, “there is nothing to writing. All you have to do is to sit down at typewriter and bleed.” He also made distinction between the writing as an art and a craft.
Later, technical sessions were held by Mr. Ajaz-ul Haque and Dr. Ajaz A Baba.
Assistant Professor, Department of Convergent Journalism, Mr. Ra’ashid Maqbool conducted the programme proceedings.
