Inflow of tourists register consistent ascend in Ladwug
new destinations in rural areas being promoted for all round development, lack of infrastructure a major problem

Leh(Ladakh), January 8, (Scoop News)-With an increased footfall of holidaymakers and arrivals of 280,000 tourists including over 46,000 foreigners have been registered last year, Ladakh, is emerging as a favourite destination for tourists in the state.
Incidentally, over 38,000 foreign and 187,600 domestic holidaymakers had visited the region between January and December in 2016 thus registering over 20 percent upswing particularly in foreign tourist arrivals till November last year (2017).
In view of the growing influx of the holidaymakers, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) has been focusing on development of infrastructure to cater to the growing number of visitors. In a bid to ensure equitable development of all parts of the region, the council is also promoting rural tourism and encouraging locals to refurbish their houses and convert them into guest houses for accommodating the tourists.
The infrastructure development with minimum impact on the surrounding flora and fauna in the rural areas would also create employment opportunities for the locals. This will also restrict the migration of people from rural to urban areas in search of jobs.
The non availability of infrastructure has been a difficult task for the authorities in the Council who are leaving no stone unturned to improve the infrastructure and provide better facilities, across the region, to the visitors. The Council has undertaken several important measures to ensure consistent development of the region.
During last over two decades a gradual change in the tourist’s perception of Ladakh has come about and the growing mystique of Himalayas and a swelling interest in adventure tourism worldwide. As a result of this change in perception there has been a steady increase in the number of tourists to both the east and western flanks of the region.
The region offers a great scope for undertaking adventure activities amidst landscapes of breathtaking and rugged beauty. The most popular and best established among these are white water rafting, trekking and mountaineering.
