PCJ hopeful of announcement of insurance, pension schemes for journalists in Budget today

Jammu, January 10, (Scoop News)-Hoping for enough provisions for launching insurance schemes and providing necessary pension benefits to working journalists in the State Budget, the journalist fraternity of the State is eagerly waiting for the State budget, which will be announced here tomorrow in State Legislative Assembly by the Minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb Drabu.

Pertinent to mention here that at present, there is no such scheme in the State for welfare of the journalists, who perform their duties round the clock in most extreme conditions in militancy-hit State at the risk of their lives.
Many neighbouring States have already announced several insurance and pension schemes for the welfare of journalists and their families. Recently Punjab Government launched a cashless insurance scheme, accidental insurance and family insurance schemes for accredited and recognized journalists, thereby providing them a sense of security.

“Press Club of Jammu has already submitted a memorandum to the State Government alongwith comprehensive proposals for launching Journalist Welfare Scheme Fund, Medical Insurance Schemes, Accident Insurance and Pension Schemes for State journalists,” Ashwani Kumar, Presidnet PCJ here said.
He said that the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Dy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and Minister for Finance, Haseeb Drabu, in separate meetings with the management committee of the Press Club of Jammu and senior journalists, have already assured for announcing pensionary benefits and insurance schemes for working journalists.”

He said that the Government representatives have assured for taking necessary measures for launching these journalist-friendly initiatives at the earliest.

“We are quite hopeful and sure that the Government will announce the schemes in the welfare and interest of the journalist fraternity in this Budget session to be presented by the Finance Minister tomorrow,” said the PCJ head.
