Centre’s special representative seeks MHA’s intervention in containing negative impression of Kashmir on electronic news channels




Srinagar, January 12, (Scoop News)-The Centre’s Special Representative, Dineshwar Sharma, has pleaded with Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, to summon a meeting with the representatives of certain electronic news channels and advice them to refrain from unleashing vitriolic disinformation against Kashmiris.

A few news channels usually telecast highly sensational news items pertaining to the valley hence causing immense damage to ongoing peace process, well informed sources said.

The sources said they agree with the anxiety of the special representative about the television channels and informed the Central government that some private news channels were projecting negative picture of the state. They pointed out that in 2016, students from few institutions were part of stone throwing incidents and the channels had reported as if entire student fraternity was involved in violent acts.

“Surprisingly, the anchors don’t have sufficient knowledge about historical, political and social background of Kashmir and even panelists, at times, are behaving like street urchins by shouting at each other,” they added.

The sources also referred to the chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, raising the issue with the Union Government on several occasions earlier. On one such occasion, she castigated the news anchors of electronic media for painting the state in a bad light....
