| Slathia visits Ramgarh Sector,expresses solidarity with sufferers of overnight shelling | |
Vijaypur, January 18, (Scoop News)- Expressing grave concern over the perpetual miseries of border dwellers in the wake of intermittent shelling from across the border, former minister and Senior State Vice President National Conference Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia on Thursday called for Indo-Pak dialogue at some level to end the border skirmishes.
During his visit to Kesso, Kamore, Kamore Camp, Babral and Mahal Shah villages of Ramgarh Sector which witnessed chaotic situation due to shelling from across in the intervening night and wee hours, Mr Slathia expressed solidarity with the families whose houses were damaged and livestock killed. He said the border residents were living under perpetual threat and fear.
“We share the agonies and miseries of the border dwellers who are braving the brunt of Pakistan shelling”, Mr Slathia told reporters.
To a question about bunkers, Mr Slathia said that lot of euphoria is being created over raising of shelter sheds and bunkers but nothing concrete has been done on ground so far. He said the border dwellers are forced to run helter skelter for safety with the government just looking to the other side, when they need shelter, medicare and other facilities the most.
He said the PDP-BJP government seems to have abdicated its responsibilities towards border dwellers and urged the local administration to carry out survey of the damages caused due to shelling and provide interim relief in terms of cash assistance and free rations to the sufferers. He said the affected people should be compensated for the losses after inventory of the damages is prepared.
In reply to another question, the former minister assailed the coalition government for not keeping the promises of allotting plots in safer areas where from the farmers can undertake farming and pursue other avocations which come to standstill in the wake of shelling. He sought formulation of a contingency plan to meet the challenges in border areas.
Mr Slathia appreciated the resilience of the border people and hoped that they will meet the situation with fortitude and courage, as demonstrated by them from time to time.
