NC leaders demand Pahari status to erstwhile Doda district

Ramban, February 11, (Scoop News)-National Conference District Unit Ramban has sought Pahari status to the erstwhile Doda district, saying people living in remote and higher reaches speak Pahari and thus deserve to be considered for benefits of reservations as applicable to this particular category.

“The residents of Pogli, Saraji, Bhaderwahi and Padri Kishtwari dialects should be brought under the ambit of Pahari languages and provided the benefits of reservation”, a resolution adopted at a day-long District Convention, held at Community Hall here.

The senior district and provincial functionaries including District President Mr Sajjad Shaheen besides Provincial Vice Presidents Mr Brij Mohan Sharma and Dr Chaman Lal stressed the need for considering this long standing demand of the area, saying this will particularly assuage the urges and aspirations of the youth.

Addressing the Convention, the District President assailed the PDP-BJP dispensation for neglecting remote areas, saying that Ramban district has been worst hit due to administrative apathy due to lack of political will. He said the developmental activities have come to grinding halt and many projects launched during the Omar Abdullah Government have either been abandoned or put in back-burner thus depriving the people of benefits.

Mr Shaheen expressed anguish over dilapidated condition of roads, erratic power and drinking water supply, scarcity of rations and availability of essentials. He said the people have suffered hugely during the winter months as most of the areas kept reeling under darkness and deprived of drinking water facilities.

“If the PDP-BJP coalition can take credit of any achievement, it is dividing the people on regional and religious basis”, Mr Shaheen said and urged the people to reject the elements inimical to the pluralistic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the state will progress as a single entity by isolating divisive forces and National Conference will continue to fight those who want to fragment society in bits and pieces for their petty political interests.

Former MLC Mr Brij Mohan Sharma exhorted the workers and delegates to strengthen National Conference, which he described as only answer to steer the state out of present morass.

“National Conference alone can meet the challenges confronted to the State and steer it to path of progress and development”, Mr Brij Mohan Sharma said.

In his address, former legislator Dr Chaman Lal lambasted the present dispensation for failing on all fronts, saying the youth have suffered the most due to growing unemployment besides favouritism and nepotism in recruitment.

Dr Chaman Lal called for unity among all sections of people and said this is imperative for harmonious growth of the society.

Prominent among those present in the Convention included Provincial Secretary Amrit Varsha, District Secretary Mr Arif Mir, Sr District Vice President Mirwaiz Atta, Mohd Katoch, Mr Mohd Afzal Wani, Mr Saif u Din Dar, Provincial Secretary YNC Mr Abid Magrey, District YNC President Mr Farooq Qazi besides the office bearers of the District Committee, Block Presidents and Halqa Presidents of the district.
