Growing exasperation of people shrinking BJP’s electoral cushion
Drabu’s sacking astonishes its leadership, terms it internal matter of PDP

Jammu, March 13, (Scoop News)-After finding itself squeezed due to growing unrest in village Rasana and Nowshehra, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has yet to devise a strategy to counter impending repercussions of the ongoing agitations in two different districts, for the party.

Incidentally, the workers of ruling alliance (BJP-PDP) had a scuffle between them in Nowshehra on Monday in which some of the activists of both parties got injured. They blamed each other for the incident. The people in Nowshehra have been agitating for past over three weeks seeking district status for the area.
Similarly, Samba and Koota townships observed a complete shutdown on Monday against the coalition government for refusing to hold an inquest by CBI into the murder of an 8 year old girl, Asifa, on February 7 this year. The swelling anger against BJP is visible on the ground.
The BJP, however, got a rude shock from its coalition partner (PDP) when it sacked the state finance minister, Haseeb Drabu, from the council of ministers for his remarks on the Kashmir issue. Drabu was considered to be the person who cobbled up of Agenda of Alliance (AoA) between the two parties in 2015 assembly elections which delivered a fractured mandate. AoA inter-alia provides for the resolution of Kashmir issue, holding of talks with all stakeholders including separatists and Pakistan and reorganization of the state etc.
Drabu landed in disputation over his reported statement made during a conference of PHD chamber of Commerce and Industries in Delhi on Saturday that Kashmir is not a political issue but a society with social issues.
“It is not a political issue as far as I can see, they have been barking up the wrong tree for the last 50 or 70 years by talking about the politics of it, that the political situation has never improved. We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself,” he added.
Drabu was asked to retract his statement after PDP was subjected to severe criticism by its political adversaries including separatist conglomerate and trader’s community, besides his own party colleagues. He, however, didn’t respond even after being served with an explanation letter by the party’s disciplinary committee headed by Abdul Rehman Veeri.
The sudden development has left BJP bewildered and they fear that it would obviously have ramifications on the party’s image in Jammu region where people’s exasperation was already seething against it for abandoning party’s beliefs to play second fiddle in the coalition.
BJP leaders, however, evaded to comment on the subject and termed it (sacking of finance minister) as PDP’s internal matter.
