Indifferent attitude of university authorities alienate students, allege lack of teaching staff and basic facilities in campus
urge authorities to hold semester exams simultaneously with main campus

Leh(Ladakh), April 16, (Scoop News)-Students studying in various faculties at Leh university campus complained of step motherly treatment being meted out to them by Kashmir based university authorities.

They said after winter vacations were over and when they resumed their classes they were shocked to find the campus being run without any visible administration including teaching and non teaching staff barring class IV employees.

“After nearly four months of winter break when classes resumed their work, everything here in the campus has been in total disarray. No teaching, non teaching staff, no water and no electricity supplies in the campus. Even classes are being held these days without any heating arrangement,” the students lamented.

The campus went for annual winter break between November 20 last and March 15 this year.

They accused the university administration of failing to hold department wise unit test till date which had to be postponed last November due to severe cold then. “We had appeared in three papers only when authorities announced postponement of examinations due to freezing cold in November last but after the classes resumed its functioning last month there is no indication of holding of exams to the remaining papers,” the students grumbled.

The students alleged that authorities had failed to restore water and electricity supplies to various buildings of the campus even after resuming of class work last month thus causing immense inconvenience to the students. “Surprisingly, there is no teaching staff available as their annual contracts have not been renewed so far,” they asserted.

The students were enrolled to various faculties during last academic session and till date and they had not appeared in a single unit test in spite of completing 80 percent of the syllabus. “Shockingly, our counterparts studying in the main campus in University of Kashmir have got promoted to second semester and we are still there where we had started,” they pointed out.

They alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to delay examination due to lack of coordination between the officials of main campus and Leh campus besides non availability of stationery items for holding of the test.

The indifferent attitude of the University administration has caused huge anger among the student community and they feel alienated.

The students urged the authorities to hold the department wise unit tests at the earliest and restoring water and electricity supplies to the campus besides providing heating arrangements in the classes.
