Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna Diwas organise in Leh


Leh, April 20, (Scoop News)- Like in the 15000 centers across the country, Ujjwala Diwas, Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat, Kuch Sikho Kuch Sikhao was organised in 10 places in Leh district here today. In Leh town the program was organised by IOCL and HPCL at Seynam Gongma Community Hall, Leh.

On the occasion EC Tourism and Food & Supply, Tsering Sandup was the chief guest. Others present on the occasion were Councilor Upper Leh, Councilor Lower Leh, AD CA&PD, President LBA Women Wing, district nodal agent Ujjwala Yojna, gas dealers, beneficiaries from various villages and school students.

Addressing the gathering Tsering Sandup informed about the decision taken in last budget session to extend the Ujjwala scheme of covering 3 crores more household in addition to the previous 5 crores household to provide free gas cylinder connections to total 8 crores households by the year 2020. He said that the objective of introducing this scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to empower women by ensuring their good health. He said that the government has come a long way in achieving the purpose of ensuring good health of women and inturn a healthy society through success of Ujjwala Yojna.

Tsering Sandup said that government is going to organize different weeks to celebrate and educate people about various flagship programmes with the aim to bring maximum awareness among people of the benefits of all the new schemes initiated by present government.

Councilor Upper Leh, Ven. Lobzang Nyantak speaking on the occasion urged the people to make judicious use of LPG cylinder. He advocates using alternative energy source like solar products to minimize the usage of cylinder and save on money. He also urged the people to make efforts to check with the gas dealers and bank to ensure gas cylinder subsidy return in their accounts. He appealed the students to spread awareness among family and others about judicious and safe use of gas cylinders.

The dignitaries present on the occasion gave away new gas connections to selected beneficiaries under the extended program of Ujjwala Yojna. Later, safety tips of gas installation, cleaning and cooking using gas cylinder were demonstrated to the beneficiaries. They were also briefed about the documentation and registration processes.
