HWO Helpline organizes sports event for children with disabilities

Bijbehara, May 16, (Scoop News)-A high level sports progragramme under theme “play for Peace” was organized by Humanity welfare organization(HWO) Helpline at Zablipora play ground. Around 130 children of different age groups participated in the programme. The sports programme being inclusive Able Disable together gave platform to disable and non disable children from district Anantnag,who play together. The programme was inaugrated by Abdul Gani Bhat Zonal education officer Bijbehara. Various completions were organised in Cricket,Chess,Carrom,Tug of war and Badminton.

Both children with and without disabilities performed well. It was seen that while playing there was no difference between disable and non disable children. All children were happily playing in a jolly atmosphere.

Speaking on the occasion, Javed Ahmad Tak, chairman Humanity welfare organisation Helpline highlighted the aims and objectives of the sports festival. He said that all children have their own personality in itself and hold capacity to compete at all levels. Disability is no way a hurdle in development of persons with disabilities. Persons with disabilities can compete in all competitions subjected they are given the platform to perform. The unnecessary labeling and stereotypes attached to persons with disabilities is the main barrier that keeps persons with disabilities away from the society. We need to bring attitudinal changes among the masses so that persons with disabilities are included and not excluded, Tak added.
While encouraging the participants with disabilities Zonal Education planning officer Bijbehara congratulated and thanked organizers that sports events organized for children with disabilities is not ordinary activity. It is highly appreciative and only bold and brave individuals in society initiate these programmes. Zone Bijbehara will support these programmes in future ZEPO Bijbehara added.


Abdul Gani Bhat Zonal education officer inaugurated the programme and said that the event is highly appreciative because despite education extra curricular activities have role to develop the personality of persons with disabilities. Education department will encourage all institutions to be inclusive and disable friendly, Bhat added.

The inaugural function was followed by a friendly cricket match between locomotor disable and deaf and mute crickters. The locomotor disable team under name friends 11 won the toss and opted for batting. The team made 98 runs. Team Helpline Tigers was Deaf and mute cricket team won the match by 3 wickets. Arif from government middle school bijbehara was declared as man of the match. He made 44 runs.

Carrom match was won by orthopedic disable participant Mudasir Ahmad.
Bisma Muzaffar a deaf girl won the badminton match. While as another deaf and mute girl from zaiba aapa institute of Inclusive education won the chess competition. Arif Adhraf deaf and dumb boy was declared 1st in 50 metre race. Tahzeeba Jan a blind girl won musical chair competition and was declared 1st in 50 metre race among blind participants. Danish Ahmad a wheelchair user child won the 50 metre race competion.
The performance of children of zaiba Aapa institute was highly appreciative. Most of the children who won competitions were from the lone special school Zaiba aapa in district Anantnag.
