15-days Roller Skating Coaching Camp for under 18 years’ girls concludes


Leh(Ladakh), May 22, (Scoop News)-The 15-days roller skating coaching camp for under-18 years’ girls organized by Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) in collaboration with Lamdon Model Sr. Secondary School Leh concluded today. The camp was organized in memory of late CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo for his great support in promoting the sport of Ice Hockey. Executive Councillor for Youth Services and Sports LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal was the chief guest on the occasion. Nominated Councillor Rinchen Lamo, and DCC President Leh Tsering Samphel were also present among others.

EC Wangyal appreciating the efforts of LWIHF said that we have to wait for winters to learn the sport of ice skating, while LWIHF has taken a step further by incorporating inline roller skating technique during summer which will be instrumental for the players in learning ice skating without much difficulty later during winters. He further appreciated their effort of organizing coaching camps in far flung areas even during sub-zero temperatures. He also mentioned about the proud role of our ice-hockey players of Ladakh of both men and women teams for representing India at international levels.

Remembering late CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa, Wangyal appreciated his efforts and keen interest in promoting the quality of this game to bring it at par with the international level. Addressing the players and students, Wangyal stressed on the importance of playing all sport at early stage and to master in one and get the chance to represent the sport at regional, state and international levels. Encouraging the players and organizers, EC Wangyal assured all possible help in this sport.

On the occasion, nominated Councillor Rinchen Lamo congratulated the LWIHF and appreciated their effort in organizing such training camps. In addition to academic qualification one should also have extra field of interest which will make them more active and help them in their studies, said Lamo.
She then requested parents to help their students in studies as well as in recognizing their extra talent and skill and to keep a check on their activities to provide help in their time of problem or obstacle. She then appreciated the women players of Ice Hockey team for imparting their knowledge to young kids. She then expressed the need to providing more such platforms for women which at present is much less as compared to men.

Principal Lamdon Model Sr. Sec. School Leh Ishey Tundup speaking on the occasion appreciated the role of LWIHF for providing free coaching and said that sport activities help students stay away from getting bad habits. He then assured LWIHF of same cooperation even during further such programmes.

Earlier, President LWIHF Kunzes Dolma welcoming the guests talked about formation of LWIHF in 2015. Due to help in the form of ice-hockey equipments donated by foreigner players and members of Ice-hockey, LWIHF decided to train girls of economically weaker section of far flung areas of Ladakh to provide them with a platform to perform in this sport and help them explore the world by representing at various levels. She remembered late CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa his encouragement and support in all aspect.

During the programme roller skate racing, and roll ball exhibition were played. An aerobic dance by students of Lamdon school added cheer to the sporting programme.
In the end, medals and certificates were distributed among the players.
