Jammu May 27, (Scoop News)-JKPCC chief, G.A. Mir, has said that it was the leadership of Gandhi- Nehru which inspired the people of Kashmir to reject the two nation theory of Jinnah and decided to seal their fate with a secular India and said those criticizing Pt. Nehru on Kashmir are either unaware of the historical role played by him or doing so because of their political compulsions.

Addressing a day long convention of Congress Party Workers of Gandhi Nagar constituency at Chatha Bhour Camp, today, organized by JKPCC leader Raman Bhalla in connection with the 54th death anniversary of first Prime Minister of the Country Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru,

PCC chief reminded the people and the workers of the historical role played by Pt. Nehru viz a viz Jammu and Kashmir and said that it was the leadership of Nehru - Gandhi which inspired the Kashmiri people to reject the two nation theory of Jinnah and tie their fate permanently with India, the great nation based on secularism which guaranteed religious freedom.

Launching a scathing attack on those forces who are trying to distort history and mislead the present future generations about the historical role played by Pt. Nehru on Kashmir, he said that either they are unaware of his role or trying to mislead the nation because of their political interests.

They are doing a great disservice to the nation and the great leader who deserved the tributes to bring Kashmir closer to the idea of India and ultimately accede to it.

He reiterated Congress party’s resolve to work for equitable development of three regions of the state and fight against discrimination to any region and exhorted the party Cadres to remain steadfast on the basic principles of secularism, socialism and unity in diversity as a fundamental ideology of the Congress Party laid down by great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad in order to maintain harmony, peace and unity and integrity of the State and the nation.

Taking a dig at PDP and BJP coalition, Mir said that the two diametrically opposite forces have betrayed their electorate when they entered into power sharing arrangement devoid of any ideological meeting point because of their contradictory and divergent approach to each and every sensitive issue and aspect of the state.

It is the reason that this Govt. is responsible for creating social disharmony and political uncertainty in the state rather than cementing the bonds of unity and peace, he added.

JKPCC chief cautioned the people about the designs of communal and divisive forces and vested political interests who are trying to create wedge in the society in order to achieve their political goal at the cost of broader interests of keeping the secular fabric and social harmony intact otherwise the troubled state would further land into deeper turmoil and challenges.

“The result of it (doing politics on sensitive issues) is that the situation in the state continues to deteriorate, which is a matter of great concern,” he said.

“Congress is the only secular and unifying force in the state, which has always strengthened the secularism and it will continue to safeguard the secular fabric of the country and state,” Mir said. He said his party would never compromise with the communal forces in the state for the sake of power.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that the treachery and deceit of the BJP is haunting Jammu people who reposed their unflinching faith and support to it with the hope that Jammu may perhaps get a better deal as during the days of its wilderness in the opposition, the BJP leaders were crying hoarse over discrimination and neglect.

He made a particular mention of the BJP and dared its ministers to list their achievements with regard to fulfilling the developmental needs of the Jammu region.

‘’Despite being in power at the Centre and in the State the party failed miserably on governance front and let down Jammu on all fronts’’, he said, adding that the BJP has nothing to showcase as its achievement, least to fulfilling liberal promises during elections.

He slammed BJP for putting Jammu’s interests and development subservient to the pleasure of PDP for remaining glued to power. The former Minister said the partnership of the alliance parties and cohesion as a result of which people of the state in general and the Jammu region in particular are suffering on account of development.

He charged the BJP for reversing some of the prestigious projects launched during the tenure of Congress for putting the Jammu region on equal pedestal of development. “Hunger for power has taken toll of the opportunistic alliance, which is overtly and covertly working towards weakening the very idea of Jammu and Kashmir.

An atmosphere of mistrust has been created by bringing the people and the regions eyeball to eyeball situation over various sensitive issues”, he said and referred to the controversies being raked up by coalition Govt.

“We decry the politics of hate and divide, he said while cautioning the people against divisive politics being played by the coalition partners which has already alienated Kashmir from the mainstream. He said the state is passing through most difficult times and if the situation is not handled with political far-sight and sagacity, the consequences could be grave not only for Jammu and Kashmir but entire country.

Bhalla said that while the insensitive coalition has failed in assuaging urges and aspirations of the people on political front, its record in governance is quite dismal.

“The state is virtually witnessing mis-governance with government nowhere to be seen on ground”, he said, adding that if all there is any visibility of the PDP and BJP anywhere in the state, it is for all the wrong reasons of exploiting people and inciting them to fight each other.“In such a grim scenario, the role of Congress as a public movement, representing the urges and aspirations of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh becomes more pronounced”, Bhalla said and urged the cadre to realize their crucial responsibilities.

He said Congress cannot afford to be a fence sitter when the state remains standing at the cross-roads of its history where the secular credentials, nurtured by Congress, are at stake in the wake of elements inimical to amity and tranquility taking center-stage. He made a passionate appeal to the people to maintain vigil against the elements inimical to the inclusiveness of the State.

Taking cognizance of the difficulties being faced by the residents of Jammu City and other adjoining areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency, Bhalla said that it is a matter of deep concern that the residents of Jammu city have to face such a huge problem pertaining to ration supply in their areas. He said that the complaints have been received from inhabitants of many areas that they are not being issued ration commodities from their respective government ration depot.

He accused BJP of betraying the people of Jammu region with its “shameless surrender” on all the important issues concerning the people of Jammu region the most. He condemned BJP for its Machiavellian politics and ideological retreat on several issues.

Congress leader said in its desperation to become a junior partner in the PDP-led government, BJP has not only sacrificed its age old ideology and solemn pledges but indulged in the most deceptive and obnoxious deal by bartering away the interests and aspirations of Jammu region.

He said all poll promises of BJP like empowerment of Jammu, delimitation of assembly constituencies and end of discrimination against Jammu region fell flat.

Bhalla said while Jammu region as a whole has suffered unexampled bias in multifarious fields after the formation of the present coalition, the unemployed Jammu youth continue to bear the severest brunt of the most discriminatory agenda of the incumbent BJP-PDP rule in the form of their near obliteration in various selection lists issued during the past two and half years.

Congress leader regretted that contrary to people’s expectations, the BJP leaders surrendered even the marginal share of Jammu region in recruitments to Kashmir so as to keep their alliance partner in good humour and thereby keep their role of Junior partner in the government intact.

He said that with most hostile and spasmodic dozes of discrimination being administered to Jammu youth in selections one after the other in the BJP govt., the BJP leaders had given Jammuites the shocker of their life time.

JKPCC leader cautioned the State Government and the mandated leaders of Jammu region to ponder over the grave concern of the Jammu youth by addressing discrimination issue and to explain the prejudice caused to Jammu youth in selections during the BJP rule.

Bhalla accused the Bhartiya Janta Party over its discriminatory attitude towards Jammu after its failure in all fronts including much talked the anti Militancy drive , allocation of funds and their promise of employment in equal share at par to Kashmir.

He said Bhartiya Janta Party at center and PDP BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir is completely failed in doing justice particularly with the people of Jammu region in all spheres including governance and deliverance whether it may be the case of equal share in employment through Public Service commission, SSRB and other recruitment state agencies there is a complete discrimination with Jammu people during past three years which can be depicted in the selection lists issued by the different agencies including PSC and SSRB.

Former MP and Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma paid rich tributes to Pt. Nehru and remembered his great role in the freedom struggle and in laying the foundation of a strong nation as first Prime Minister. He lauded his historical role for the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India and criticized those who raised questions to mislead coming generations about his historical role.

Former ministers Mr. Mula Ram, Mohd. Sharief Niaz, R.S. Chib and Ravinder Sharma, were among others who paid tributes to late leader.
