State Conclave on National SC/ST Hub scheme held in Leh

Leh,June 12, (Scoop News)-The State Conclave Leh focusing on coalescing efforts to build better ecosystem for SC-ST and augmenting competencies of SC-ST owned MSMEs was held at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Ti-Suru, Leh today. The event was organized by NSIC under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, GoI in association with Forum of SC & ST Legislators & Parliamentarians.

Minister for School Education, Tribal Affair, Haj & Auqaf, J&K Choudhary Zulfikar Ali was the chief guest on the occasion.

Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjey, CEC, LAHDC Dorjey Mutup, Executive Councilors, MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora, Dr. P.G.S. Rao, Director MSME, Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, Presient NSC/ST Legislators and Parliamentarian Forum, J&K, Councilors, Ex MLC Nurbu Gyaltsan, District Officers, District President BJP, Officers from 14 CORP and ITBP. Besides businessmen, young entrepreneurs, school and college students and soldiers of Ladakh Scouts and Para-military were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Zulfikar Ali spoke of the unacceptable condition of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe community in the country since independent with no improvement in their social status despite constitutional reforms and acts. He said that social stigma and lack of political will have been the reasons for SC/STs not getting connected to mainstream.

The Minister appreciated the efforts made by present and previous governments for the upliftment of SC/ST communities. He stressed on the need to focus on MSMEs and start with encouraging entrepreneurs on priority. He urged NSIC, the executing agency to ensure awareness generation about the National SC/ST Hub scheme among aspiring entrepreneurs in every corner of the country to achieve the targeted result. He also appreciated Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, Presient Forum of SC & ST Legislators & Parliamentarians for his constant contribution to the cause of community and organising this State Conclave in Leh.

He said the service sector is a part of MSME and assured to support Ladakh region in promoting tourism sector. He emphasized on coordinated efforts between Ministry of MSME and Ministry of J&K government to give something meaningful to the people of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir region. He said that J&K government is fully committed to honour LAHDC Leh and Kargil and assured them full support in improving the economic condition of these districts.

The Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjey stressed on labour intensive jobs considering the unemployment status in the country. He said that it’s the right time for Ladakh to focus on MSME. He said that government needs to look into the practicality of any business to start by young entrepreneurs considering the geographical peculiarities of the region. He also informed that by end of this year Ladakh will get connected to Northern Grid which will solve the power related problems and open promising avenues for the young entrepreneurs to start any enterprise.

CEC, LAHDC Dorjey Mutup expressed gratitude to the organisers for conducting such an important event in Leh. He urged upon all the eligible candidates to take full advantage of the NSC/ST Hub scheme and upgrade their skills in promoting unique local products like pashmina, seabuckthron, etc.

Nawang Rigzin Jora speaking on the occasion said that MSME contribute 25% to country’s GDP and it’s an important sector with greater employment generation avenues. He said that government jobs will be curtailed in coming times and stressed on the need to develop skills to excel in business enterprise.

Dr. P.G.S. Rao, Director MSME gave a detail description about National SC/ST Hub scheme that was launched by Prime Minister of India at Ludhiana in October, 2016. He said that the main objective of this scheme is to create opportunity for the aspiring entrepreneurs from SC/ST communities and provide them with a platform to start small or medium scale business at subsidised rates. Besides, the scheme also aims at collecting data of SC/ST entrepreneurs across the country, encourage new entrepreneurs and to get the existing entrepreneurs into mainstream.

National SC/ST Hub Leh directory of MSMEs was also unveiled by the chief guest Ch. Zulfikar Ali on the occasion.

Later, the Minister also visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School Leh and inspected the classrooms and interacted with the teaching faculty.
