| Open Gojri Department in JU, BGSBU :Gujjars | |
Jammu , June 17, (Scoop News)-Demanding immediate steps to establish “Gojri Department ” in University of Jammu and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri- the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today appealed higher authorities to intervene and implement the decision of its Council meeting held in presence of JU Chancellor J&K Governor and Pro-Chancellor Chief Minister in 2008, in which a full-fledged Gojri Research Centre was approved for the development of Gojri Language. The Community demanded a similar Department of Gojri in BGSB University too.
Raising the issue with the Chief Minister J&K Ms Mehbooba Mufti , who is also Pro- Chancellor of Jammu University and Chancellor of BGSB University Rajouri ,the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation- sent two letters to Chief Minister in this regard.
In this connection -the foundation organised a meeting of Gojri language held here under the chairmanship of Dr. Javaid Rahi
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Gojri being a largest spoken tribal language of the state deserves fair deals from Universities located in J&K state. He impressed upon the Gujjar community to join hand for recognition of their mother tongue. He impressed upon JU and BGSBU authorities to establish full- fledged Gojri departments to teach and document the treasure of Gojri.
Dr. Rahi however said that recognition of Gojri by JU in Open Choice Courses in Masters a big step of University.
said even the teaching staff was also sanctioned by the council for Gojri centre adding that we are demanding that the centre should be started at Jammu, the midpoint of the State so that the student of other parts of province could also study this subject.
He said that the "Gojri" speakers who constitute 20 to 25 % of the population of State are fighting since 1980 for establishment of “Gojri department” , on the patron of ‘Dogri’ and ‘Kashmiri’ departments, in University of Jammu and Kashmir Universities and after a long struggle the highest body of University in 2008 approved a Research Centre for Gojri to be established in Jammu but after the lapse of two and half year nothing concrete has emerged on the ground level.
Other speakers on the occasion said the State Government has already recognized Gojri by including it in the 6th Schedule of the State constitution but till date no University in the State has recognized this language by including it into the University Curriculum and it is the aspiration of lakhs of people who want that due credit should be given to this ancient language which is serving our motherland for centuries together.
They said , we have urged the authorities that there is an urgent need for promoting studies and research in tribal art, culture, tradition, language, custom, and only this department can full fill all these growing demands and with the help of this department the richest tribal traditions of Gujjars could have persevered for all generations to come.
They urged the community leaders in politics to press the University authorities including State Governor, Chief Minister and Vice Chancellor over the issue as the establishment of Gojri Department in JU and BGSBU Rajouri which will cater to the specific educational needs of the tribal and marginalized population of Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and other 10 states of northwestern States of Himalaya.
