Holding Panchayat and ULB elections in J&K meaningless until peace is not restored: Vakil

Srinagar,September 21 (Scoop News)-President of Jammu and Kashmir Bachavo Tehreek and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today in a statement welcomed the proposed meeting between Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan on the sidelines of UN General Assembly Session in New York this month and said that dialogue is the only way out to resolve Kashmir issue and an opportunity to bring both the countries closer so that common masses in both the countries could get rid of the vicious cycle of death and destruction as it is the only direction which will ultimately lead both the countries somewhere towards positivity and resolution of Kashmir issue.
Expressing concern over the motive and intentions of the both Central and State Governor in respect of holding Panchayat and Municipal Elections despite the situation being grim and not conducive for any type of elections in the State Vakil said that abduction and killing of Policemen and civilians must serve as an eye opener for Hon’ble Governor Sh. Satya Pal Malik and any adamant approach in this regard will definitely prove detrimental to peace and tranquility not only in militancy affected areas but also in relatively calm and peaceful areas of the State. He said that the Hon’ble Governor should have prioritized the initiatives for restoring peace and sense of security amongst common people. Vakil reiterated that holding of ULB and Panchayat election is not everything for the people of J&K instead priority should be accorded to creating peaceful atmosphere and “Holding polls will backfire dangerously.
Former Minister said that Central Government owes an explanation to the nation in respect of not conducting election to the left out single parliamentary seat in J&K but being hell bent to conduct ULB and Panchayat Elections. He said that the hasty and unwise decision depicts some angle of conspiracy and urged the Hon’ble Governor to put a full stop on the process and immediately convene All Party Meeting to discuss the present political and security scenario in the State and gather the opinion on Article 35 A so that Central Government gets proper and credible advice. Former Minster reiterated his appeal to the mainstream parties especially PDP and NC to boycott every election whether parliament or Assembly until the issue of Article 35-A is settled and dialogue with Pakistan and Hurriyat is initiated.
