‘Market cannot survive without consumers,traders must ensure consumer satisfaction’: C. Phunsog
two day workshop concludes, series of sessions related to consumer rights and protection held during the event



Leh(Ladakh), October 8, (Scoop News)-A two day workshop on ‘Consumer Protection and Consumer Welfare’ which was organized by Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), J&K regional branch, in collaboration with Centre for Consumer Studies and state Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department concluded on Sunday.
During past two days a series of sessions on various issues related to consumer protection were held and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Dorjay Motup, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) was the chief guest for the valedictory session. Others who spoke during the event included Dr Sapna Chadha and Nisar Ahmed Wani, Director Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
The workshop, held for the first time in the Himalayan region, was attended by over 120 delegates from various departments including Legal Metrology, Education Department, Police, Food Corporation of India and Consumer Affairs and Drugs and Food Control Organisation.
Speaking on the occasion, former chief secretary C. Phunsog, said market cannot survive without consumers and that is why the traders and service provider should ensure consumer satisfaction. He emphasized that government should ensure the protection of consumer rights through appropriate implementation of law and policy for benefit of consumers.
Consumers are faced with a menace of fake, defective and misleading offer and schemes because of E Commerce said Professor Suresh Misra, Chair Professor and Coordinator, IIPA, New Delhi. In his introductory comments he said that globalization, liberalization and new technological developments have given rise to consumerism. With several advantages attached to it, he said this has made consumers more vulnerable and exposed to wider risks.
Earlier after inaugurating the workshop, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ms Sargan Shukla, in her address said, pointed out that problems of consumers are soaring up every day and new challenges. There are many dimensions of consumer rights, consumer awareness and consumer education.
“As consumers, we need to know about all these things including appropriate legal and policy measures in place to protect us,” she asserted.
