SMVDCoN holds 28th meeting GB,Reviews progress on upcoming hostel buildings, staff accommodation


Jammu, October 8, (Scoop News)-The 28th meeting of Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, was held here and discussed several matters relating to the future growth and development of this college as a top ranking institution in nursing and research.

Towards this objective, a 10-year Vision Plan is under formulation which, interalia, envisages developing SMVDCoN as a pioneering institution in imparting top quality nursing education from B. Sc. to the Ph.D. level. Some of the best practices being followed by various renowned nursing colleges in the country and abroad will be replicated in this college keeping in view futuristic nursing care needs in the larger health care perspective.

The meeting discussed the modalities for framing a policy to organise Continuing Nursing Education programme by SMVDCoN for the faculty of nursing colleges which is proposed to be of 2 days duration and conducted once a year. Besides, the GB also discussed the matters in regard to organising of 3rd Lamp Lighting ceremony and annual day function of the College shortly as well as the state level Inter-College Nursing Fest, “Tarang 2019”.

The GB also took stock of the visit schedule of the students and faculty of the SMVDCoN to the various schools in the state during the next few months in regard to enlarging awareness among the students about nursing as a career option and stressed that such outreach activities should be made a regular feature for the benefit of students, particularly of the remote and far-flung areas.

The meeting was chaired by Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College of Nursing; and Mr. Dheeraj Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO; Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Administrator of the SMVDCoN; Mr. M. M. Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Shrine Board; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College of Nursing; participated in the deliberations.

The meeting took review of the various activities organised by the college recently including inter-house public speaking competition besides, motivational lecture and interactive session by the Chairman of the GB as well as holding of health awareness camps at SGC and CHC Katra and SMVDU. The GB emphasised the need for organising more such activities for benefit of the society at large.

The meeting also constituted a 3-member committee headed by Dr. Harjai for formulating guidelines for pursuing Ph.D. in Nursing programme by the faculty of SMVDCoN, which will be placed before the GB for consideration.

Reviewing the to-date status of construction of infrastructure of the SMVDCoN, the GB was informed by the Chief Engineer of the Board that two hostel blocks comprising 96 rooms with a capacity for accommodating 3 students in each room and two residential blocks for faculty and staff of the Nursing College will come up next year as per the envisaged timelines. ...
