DC Lavasa reviews preliminary measures for Panchayat elections in Leh

Leh, October 10 (Scoop News)- Keeping in view the upcoming Panchayat election in November, DC Leh Avny Lavasa convened a preliminary review meeting regarding the election arrangements with the SDMs of various Sub-divisions yesterday.

It was told in the meeting that Leh district has 95 Panchayat halqas with 687 Panch constituencies. She directed the SDMs to carry surveys in the Panch constituencies to identify polling locations/stations and availability of basic facilities like water, electricity, furniture etc. She emphasised on ensuring identification of polling locations in cut off and remote area where accessibility would be a challenge in case of snowfall.

She said that the Panchayat elections in Leh district will be conducted in 3 phases and urged the SDMs to submit a practicable proposal by October 15 to ensure proper arrangements and smooth polling in the district. She stressed on having uninterrupted communication services during the election period and directed BSNL to make all the DSPTs and mode of communication functional with immediate back up services.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Leh also convened an important meeting to discuss about the formulation of a one year action plan for Rs.50 Lakhs project for Leh district under the scheme Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP). It is a central government scheme launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2015 with the aim to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls.

She instructed all the SDMs and concern District Officers to classify relevant issues area wise on need basis with long term benefit while drafting the project proposal and urged them to submit the proposal by 15th of Oct. 2018.
