Leh Police observes Police Commemoration Day


Leh,October 21 (Scoop News)-Like other parts of the country, the Police Commemoration Day was observed at Police Line Choglamsar today with great will and spirit under the headship of SSP, Leh Sargun Shukla. Paying rich homage to the Police martyrs, SSP, Leh readout the names of martyrs policemen at a general parade who had given supreme sacrifices while protecting of national integrity and sovereignty.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Avny Lavasa was the chief guest on the occasion. The Commandant, 25th IRP, Tsering Gyalpo, SP, CID, Sonam Dechen, Dy. SP, DAR, Sonam Dorjey and other Police Officers and Jawans attended the function.
As a mark of respect to the martyrs, wreaths were offered at the Martyr’s memorial by the chief guest and the Police Officers. The kith and kins of martyrs Policemen ASI Sonam Dorjey, SGCT Gulam Abass, SI Stanzin Norboo and CT Shabir Hussain also present on the occasion and they were given gifts as a token of respect and encouragement. The students of Nari Niketan and Bal Ashram were also invited there as guests and presented them gifts.
SSP, Sargun Shukla on this occasion interacted with the families of martyrs and enquired about their welfare and also discussed issues like arrival of pension money and other dues.
Later speaking to the media persons, DC, Leh Avny Lavasa said that this is an important occasion to show solidarity with the families of martyrs policemen and pay tributes to the sacrifice of those police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of their duty. “Generally we celebrate the valor and bravery of our Army, but we also need to give equal recognition and acknowledgement to the contributions of our police and paramilitary forces”, Lavasa said and added that a common citizen can also contribute a lot to the national development in day to day life with good actions.
SSP, Sargun Shukla also spoke with the media person. She said that Police Commemoration Day is observed all over the country every year on 21st October to remember and salute those gallant police personnel who had achieved martyrdom at Hot Spring in Eastern Ladakh in 1959 while defending the motherland and also those who gave their lives providing security to the people. The other purpose of observing the day is to take pledge and uphold similar strength and courage they exhibited and serve the nation and its people with similar character, she quipped.
