SFRI organizes revival, revitalization of local health traditions session

Jammu, November 06 (Scoop News)-To mark the National Ayurvedic Day, State Forest Research Institute (SFRI), J&K organized a brainstorming session on revival and revitalization of local health traditions based on Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha Homeopathy-Indian System of Medicines.
While reflecting the significance of treatment of human ailments based on Indian System of Medicines, the Director SFRI emphasized on the need for propagation and multiplication of important medicinal plants linked to Indian history, culture, medicine spiritualism and human health.
Director SFRI also disclosed that the Institute is going to organize Forest Tree Awareness Week from November 12 to 17 with a view to sensitize frontline staff, citizens, students, scholars, bird watchers, nature lovers and folk healers in the interest of human welfare.
Conservator of Forests, Research Circle, Jammu asked for strengthening ex-situ and in-situ conservation of select rare, endangered and threatened species. He also stated that SFRI needs to work on medicinal trees of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Director, SFRI stressed on the conservation of trees which are habitats of diverse insects, bees, birds and play an important role in seed dispersal, germination to maintain the ecosystem of forests.
On the occasion, Night-Flowering Jasmine (Parijat) and drumstick tree saplings (Sanjwana) were planted and medicinal qualities of both the plants were highlighted among the participants.
