Army organises Awaami Mela at Ganthmulla


Srinagar, November 09 (Scoop News)-True to its tradition, the Army has always believed in reaching out to the people, while ensuring their safety and maintaining peace at all times. It has been the Army’s constant endeavour to connect with the Awaam to provide them a conducive environment to flourish, prosper and at the same time feel secure and live peacefully. To further this objective, the Army organised an Awaami Mela on 08th November at Barrage Ground, Ganthmulla which was dedicated to Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani, also known as the “Saviour of Baramulla” who facilitated in halting the march of Kabailis towards Srinagar till the Indian Army reached Baramulla and drove out the Kabailis.
The “Paradise on Earth” as Kashmir is called, has tremendous potential to be tapped in terms of talent, tourism, education and business. The youth, who are our future societal leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals, are a power house of energy and talent which needs to be maneuvered in the direction of prosperity, growth and harmony to produce a blend of modernity and Kashmiriyat and the Awaami Mela was conducted precisely to address these needs of the youth.
To celebrate the renowned Kashmiri Sufiyana music, music maestro Janab Shafi Sopori and a local group Pahari cultural forum, Tathamulla, mesmerised the audience with their musical performance of Sufi, Pahari & Kashmiri songs. Children from Blind School and Parivar School, Baramulla, also contributed to the musical flavour.
Carrying forward the legacy of helping those in need, a Mega Medical Camp was also setup wherein doctors from the Army and District Hospital provided free treatment and medication to the Awaam. The ‘Fun and Frolic’ section comprising of various swings, rides and games was a huge draw for the children. A Haat for all the shopping enthusiasts was also setup with a variety of products and a Food Court comprising of numerous food joints of Baramulla was also established to tingle the taste buds of the Awaam.
Maj Gen GS Rawat, Dagger Division Commander, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and speaking at the event, he emphasised upon the rich culture and history of Kashmir and applauded the hard work, resilience and temperament of Kashmiris even in the face of adversities. The Dagger Division Commander also took this opportunity to exhort the youth to channelise their energy towards nation building and betterment of the society. Various prominent personalities from the JKP, CRPF, BSF and Civil Administration also attended the event.
The enthusiastic response from the Awaam, in general, and the youth, in particular, during the event once again highlighted the successful conduct of the event.
