Youth Services & Sports, Leh organises Archery Championship 2018

Leh, December 15 (Scoop News)- Dy. Chairman Gyal P Wangail presided as the chief guest on the occasion of closing function of 4th CEC Archery Championship 2018 at Indoor Stadium Leh yesterday.
The Championship is being organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports, Leh in collaboration with District Archery Association, Leh. Total 12 teams participated including a male team and a female team of PAGIR, thus making it inclusive by giving chance to differently abled people to equally participate in the archery championship.
DC/CEO LAHDC, Leh Avny Lavasa, nominated Councilor Nasir Hussain, Col P.K. Das of LSRC, Leh, DYS&S Officer Tsering Tashi and office staff and President DAA Rinchen Namgial and its members were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dy. Chairman said that archery has always been a famous sport in the history of Ladakh and it holds great traditional and cultural significance. He asserted that in sports more than winning participation is important and appreciated the women team of PAGIR for their participation in the championship. He stressed on the role and responsibility of Sports Associations like District Archery Association in improving the standard of archery and to facilitate local aspirants with training and exposure matches outside Ladakh to excel in archery.
Gyal Wangyal said that sports like archery require modern and technically superior equipment to match the international standard. He added that Hill Council has decided to introduce archery as a sport in High and Higher Secondary Schools for which high quality equipment have already purchased that will be distributed to the schools. He said that Council is determined to encourage and explore the potential of local children in archery and provide them with the opportunity to compete at state and national level.
Later, after archery demonstration by guests and participants award ceremony was performed. Yaya-tso team was awarded the winning trophy as the winner of 4th CEC Archery Championship 2018. Pangong team remained the runners up and third position was bagged by Lalok team. In individual matches Rigzin Yontan of Pangong Team won the first position, Mohd anif of Khardong Team came second and third position is taken by Dorjey Namgial of Lalok Team.
A special prize was also awarded to two teams of men and women from PAGIR and to Tsewang Dorjai who has been selected by Boys Sports Company Army on basis as best archer from Ladakh to get trained in Archery Academy Shilong. At the academy he is ranked 13th position out of 45 selected archers at All India Inter BSCA.
