Chinar corps celebrates Vijay Diwas

Srinagar,December 16 (Scoop News)-The Chinar Corps today celebrated the 47th Anniversary of the Indian victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War in true military traditions by remembering the nation’s heroes and martyrs. Rich tributes were paid to the gallant martyrs in a solemn ceremony organised at the War Memorial in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar where Lt Gen AK Bhatt, GOC Chinar Corps, paid homage to the martyrs by laying wreath on behalf of the entire soldiers’ fraternity.

16th of December is celebrated every year as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate the Indian Army’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, which terminated with the total capitulation of the Pakistani Army in erstwhile East Pakistan that led to the birth of Bangladesh. In this War, the Indian Army had captured, 93,000 prisoners of war, the maximum number since the end of the Second World War. The Chinar Corps was responsible for the entire Jammu & Kashmir during the War and, ably supported by the Awaam of the State, gave a sterling account of itself in various battles fought in J&K theatre achieving many successes.

The momentous day was befittingly celebrated with same pride and vigour at different Army formations and units all across the Valley.
