Kar deserts PDP, drives to Gupkar to join NC.

Srinagar, February 9, (Scoop News)-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered yet another jolt after its district leader, Irshad Rasool Kar, deserted the party and joined an adversary political party.

Surprisingly, following Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) pulled out of the coalition government in June 2018, seven lawmakers including five ministers of PDP had either joined Peoples Conference (PC) or National Conference (NC) in pursuit of furthering their political career in restive Jammu and Kashmir.

Kar joined NC on Friday in presence of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Nasir Aslam Wani. He resigned from the basic membership of PDP and had tendered his resignation to his party president, Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday.

Son of a veteran Congress leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar, he was previously the PDP president of Baramulla and Bandipora districts and had unsuccessfully contested election in 2014 from Sopore assembly segment PDP’s ticket.

With the induction of Kar into party fold, NC has appreciatively improved its prospects in Baramulla district as another former PDP minister, Basharat Bulhari ,from the area had joined the NC in December last. Bukhari was elected from Sangrama assembly segment on two earlier occasions in 2009 and 2015.

NC is likely to field Kar from Sopore assembly segment where the (NC) party had not been able to build its base in the past due to Congress leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar’s, influence. Sopore is considered to be the stronghold of Congress party.

Incidentally, during 2015 state elections when PDP wave swept majority of NC bastions, Sopore sprang a surprise then by electing Congress candidate, Sheikh Abdul Rashid Dar from there.
