Five militants killed in Kulgam encounter with security forces

Srinagar, February 10 (Scoop News)-Five militants were killed Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district.
Police said that based on a credible input about the presence of terrorists in Kellam area of Devsar in District Kulgam, a cordon and search operation was launched today in the wee hours jointly by Police and security forces in the area.

As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.

In the ensuing encounter, five terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.



Police further said that killed terrorists have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Rather son of Bashir Ahmad Rather resident of Ashmuji Kulgam, Aqib Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Zangulpora Devsar, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Mukdam Mohalla Qaimoh, Idrees Ahmad Bhat son of Ramzan Bhat resident of Arwani and Zahid Ahmad Parray son of Abdul Hamid resident of Gopalpora D.H Pora.

As per police records, it was a combined group of proscribed terror outfits HM and LeT and their exact affiliations are being ascertained. They were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

Terrorists Waseem, Aqib and Parvaiz were involved in the killings of a civilian Mohd Iqbal Kawaq resident of Kilam and local army personnel Mukhtar Ahmad son of Gh Hassan Malik resident of Shurat, for which cases stand registered in concerned Police Stations.

This group of terrorists was also involved in various grenade attack incidents across Anantnag and Kulgam districts for which cases stand registered in concerned Police Stations.

Incriminating material such as arms & ammu, was recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for the purpose of investigation.

Pertinently no collateral damage took place during the encounter. Bodies of the killed terrorists were handed over to their families after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
