| Gyal P Wangyal assessed the issues and problems of Changthang people | |
Leh, March 09 (Scoop News)-Dy. Chairman Gyal P Wangyal during his visit to Puga also chaired a review meeting `on various issues pertain to Changthang. The meeting was attended by Councilor Korzok Gurmat Dorjay, SDM Nyoma Mohd. Taqi, BDO Nyoma Dr. Tsewang Namgail, head of the concerned departments, Naib Sarpanch Skarma Shatup, Nambardars of villages of Sumda, Tigazong ,Korzok, Angkung and Samad and villagers.
While discussing the snow crisis when Changthang witnesses heavy snow, Dy, Chairman, LAHDC, Leh said that Council would establish fodder banks in various snow bound places with sufficient stock. The nomad people have agreed to purchase the fodder on 50% subsidized rate from these fodder banks. In case of harsh weather or severe crisis, LAHDC would however provide the fodder for their livestock free of cost. Discussion on replication of success story of fenced pasture land at Sumdo that has been proving a resourceful alternative pasture for the livestock during the time of crisis, Gyal P Wangyal assured the public representative of Changthang that LAHDC will initiate necessary measures in this direction through concerned department and see the feasibility for creation of such pasture land at other key places.
The Numberdar of some area demanded for providing additional ration in their favour as the quota of their ration which has been received in advance already exhausted due to the fact that they were compelled to feed the human ration to their livestock during the recent heavy snow fall when the pasture was completely buried under the thick snow. They also demanded for more relief assistance in shape of barley and fodder considering the fodder crisis in the region. Responding to the people’s demand, Gyal Wangyal assured to take appropriate measure in this regard and also assured to take up the issue with Army and ITBP as they are also extending relief assistance to the locals in the event of snow or other emergencies.
