Gandhi Global Family & Gandhi Peace Foundation hold SDGs review meet | | Jammu,May -13 (Scoop News)- A review meeting regarding the promotion of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held at Jodhamal Public SchoolJammu. Gandhi Global Family J&K and Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter, under the aegis of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) New Delhi, have joined hands with seventeen schools of Jammu city to promote 17 UN Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs). In today’s annual review meet, Each school representative presented power point presentation and video clips of allotted goals. Alexander memorial School having their goal of ‘ No Poverty’in their presentation had highlighted the out reach activities initiated by their school including visit to Bal Bharti School, Nagrota and Prem Nagar Colony, Jammu comprising the weaker section of society. About 30 women were identified in these two areas they were living in miserable conditions with their children.To provide the help and employment to the women living in Prem Nagar area they were encouraged to enroll themselves in Women Welfare Centre Prem Nagar to learn some skills like stitching, cutting, toy making, beauty parlour, typing and stenography according to their age and capabilities.The students of the school also visited Women Welfare Centre, Prem Nagar run by Social Welfare Department, J&K and collected the information about the vocational courses available there.
Based on the goal of ‘Zero hunger’ GD Goenka School in their presentation highlighted the activities like special assemblies , Poster making, interactive sessions which had been organised by the school. The school also conducted the activities in the surrounding slum areas so as to aware them regarding the issue. They had also organised ‘Needy camping’ in collaboration with Red Cross society.
Tiny Tots Senior Secondary School with its allotted goal ‘Good Health & Well-Being’ had organised awareness drives regarding malnutrition, mental awareness, world malaria day, lung cancer day and world mental stress management day in collaboration with different agencies.Medical camps providing vaccination ,Symposium on arthritis awareness drive, poster making on World AIDS day were also a part of their presentation.
Jodhamal Public School with its GOAL 6 on ‘clean water and sanitation’ highlighted its contribution towards rain water harvesting system by being the only school in this direction. Besides, Interactive sessions creating awareness on the issue,Plantation drives Nukkad nataks, water conservation activities, and Water saving pledge were also a part of their presentation.
Lawrence Public School with its goal of ‘Decent Work & Economic Growth’ talked about the self help groups formed in this regard. Awareness program regarding ensuring safer life,NO ‘Khali Paet campaign’ in collaboration with Robin hood Army, Cancer awareness rally in collaboration with global cancer concern India and Swachch bharat drive were also organised by the school.
British International School with goal 11 of Sustainable Cities and Communities showed their visits to orphanage and the other activities organised like Symposiums and poster making.
JK Public School with its goal13 Climate action had organised activities in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir state pollution control board. They had also celebrated World earth day and organised different, group discussion, round table conferences and leadership programs in this regard.
Model Academy with its goal ‘Life under water’ highlighted the adoption of middle government school Digiana, and organised awareness sessions there regarding the goal, like the teachers awareness programs, painting competition, awareness through art etc.
KC International Schøol in their presentation highlighted the kind of role and steps initiated in improving the working conditions of village Bhagatpur which they had adopted.
