Residents of Sharika Vihar complain of acute shortage of potable water in area
seek intervention of governor’s administration, consumers forced to buy water through tankers at high price



Jammu, May 14, (Scoop News)-Residents of Sharika Vihar in lower Roop Nagar complain of severe potable water unavailability in their area for last several months forcing them to buy it from the private tankers.

They appealed the governor’s administration to take swift action by restoring the supply of the potable water through their regular connections.

“We have approached the concerned authorities several times in the past and complained about the acute shortage of the water supply in the area but no action was taken by them till date,” said Rohit Koul, a private employee in a telecom sector.

He said the officials of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department are not taking the matter seriously and they have been ignoring their earlier complaints.

The residents said that during summer months the deficiency of water increases considerably when no water runs through the pipes for days together and the problem becomes grave then.

“To fulfill the requirement of our family, we have to buy water through tanker twice a week at excessively high prices,” said Honey Kumar, a student.

It is unimaginable to survive without water in the searing temperatures these days, he added....
