SSCC adopts a five point resolution on rape incident of a minor girl
appeals people to maintain peace and unity, urge authorities to take its investigations to its logical end swiftly



Srinagar, May 15, (Scoop News)-Appealing people to maintain peace, unity and also called for stopping ongoing protests over rape case of a minor girl in Bandipora district, the Shia- Sunni Coordination Committee (SSCC) has urged the authorities to hold an impartial probe quickly into the incident.

An extraordinary meeting was convened at the direction of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday to discuss on the gruesome and barbaric incident that has shaken the conscience of every Kashmiri. However, Mirwaiz could not attend the meeting personally due to his indisposition.

The prominent participants in the meeting included Moulana Ghulam Rasool Humi, Mufti Nasrul Islam, Moulana Khurshid Ahmed Qanoongo, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Noori, Ghulam Nabi, Moulana Sibti Mohammad Shabir Kumi, Ghulam Mohammad Gulzar, Aga Syed Yusuf Rizvi, representative of Mirwaiz Umar and others.

The SSCC members also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the victim’s family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the minor girl and the participants put forth their suggestions as to how the sectarian brotherhood can be kept unimpaired so that attempts made to precipitate a sectarian turmoil are countered with full force.

A resolution was unanimously adopted which appealed the people of Kashmir to remain patient and maintain calm. “We appeal the people to call off the protests and to create a peaceful atmosphere so that investigations are taken to logical end,” the resolution said and pointed out that any sort of insensitivity and sluggishness in approach by the authorities or the police would lead to stiff resistance from the people.

After thorough discussions a five point resolutions was unanimously adopted by the members.

The resolution urged the governor’s administration to conduct the investigations on priority and ensure that the perpetrator gets exemplary punishment. It further stated that the rape of three year old was a blot on the entire community and society of Kashmir collectively and not just for any particular group or a community as the ’impression’ is being created by some elements.

Meanwhile, a group of people from Ladakh residing in Hawal, a downtown area of the capital city, staged a protest against the incident terming it a shameful and unfortunate.

They said that the accused should be dealt with strictly, adding that the action against him should remain lesson for everyone.

Meanwhile, police has arrested dozens of protestors on various charges including damaging of vehicles and causing inconvenience to the passengers travelling on different routes across the Valley, informed sources said. ...
