Largest congregation of Kashmiri Pandits offer prayers at Tul Mul on Zeth Aethum
offer milk, sugar comes, rose petals to sacred spring amid chanting of hymns in a spiritual ambience

Tul Mul (Ganderbal), June 10, (Scoop News)-Thousands of displaced Kashmiri Pandits paid their obeisance at the Sanctum Sanctorum of Mata Ragniya and offered prayers with religious fervor and devotion.
An annual pilgrimage to one of the holiest shrines Kashmiri Pandits takes place on ‘Zeshta Ashtami’ (Zeth Aethum) which falls on Monday this year.
Nearly 90 vehicles carrying pilgrims on Sunday had left Jammu amid chanting of religious slogans and singing of hymns. Many other devotees travelled in their own vehicles and the convoy was flagged off by the senior state officials at Nagrota, on the outskirts of Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Before the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley following the eruption of armed insurgency in early 1990, the day was being celebrated with huge fanfare when thousands of them used to congregate and immerse themselves in a spiritual ambience inside shrine complex.
The Sanctum Sanctorum is resonating with prayers besides offering of flowers, rose petals, milk, rice pudding and sugar cones in the sacred spring besides lighting of oil lamps. The festival has a immense significance for the Pandit community which they celebrate as ‘Zaeth Aethum’ with religious fervor, enthusiasm and devotion.
In the outer compound, the stalls were set up by local Muslims to sell milk, flowers, sugar cones etc needed to perform the rituals of the festival.
Vijay Bijbehari who was the part of convoy and had reached the place (Tul Mul) at 10 pm last evening, offered his prayers this morning along with his family, said “the colour of water is milky white and indicates felicitous for the people and the state.”
Interestingly, the water of the sacred spring has a distinction of changing its colours according to inauspicious or auspicious happenings in the region. Light coloures like pink, white, blue and green are believed to be auspicious while red and black indicated a bad omen....
