SMC Councillors apprise Advisor Sharma about developmental activities
Srinagar,September 27 (Scoop News)-Advisor to Governor, K K Sharma today said that government has already set in place a mechanism for making basic units of democracy like Municipal Councils more vibrant and effective.
The Advisor was interacting with a deputation of councillors of Srinagar Municipal Corporation who called on him today and apprised him about the issues of SMC and also the scope of developmental works undertaken by them.
The Advisor said that the Government has already taken adequate steps for increasing the scope and working of the Municipal Corporations as well as Committees by adequately empowering them with required funds.
He said that MCs are the basic units of ensuring that the democracy reaches the grass root levels by acting as a viable interface between the people and developmental agencies.
The Advisor asked the councillors to interact with the people so that the developmental activities being undertaken by them would be area specific and according to the needs and demands of the particular area.
He said they should also contribute their bit in strengthening the democracy and its institutions at grass root level by ensuring the participatory role of the people.
The deputation raised several issues related to the working of the SMC and also the scope of the developmental works being undertaken and sort intervention of the Advisor for their redressal.
The Advisor assured them that issues projected by them would be redressed in a time-bound manner.
