Army institutes host of measures for the awaam to prevent spread of covid-19 in the valley

Srinagar, March 23 (Scoop News)-The Army in Kashmir is at the forefront of the national effort to combat the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). To contain the spread of the pandemic in Kashmir, the Army has ceased all non-essential movement of its personnel and strict screening and quarantine protocols have been put in place. Necessary precautionary steps being taken include measures like extension of leaves, ceasing all congregations and examining all supplies. Apart from instituting various measures to safeguard its own troops, a host of proactive measures have been undertaken in close coordination with the civil administration.
Army had recently assisted the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to tranship the urgently required specialised sterilisation chemical. Based on the requirement projected, the Army in close coordination with the Air Force airlifted 1,200 Kilograms of the specialised sterilisation chemicals from Delhi to Srinagar in two Dornier aircrafts. The prompt response in organising the airlift by the Army and Air Force, ensured that the critical chemicals as required by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) could be made available well in time.
The Army medical teams have been stationed at Srinagar Airport to augment the already existing screening infrastructure of the civil administration. One quarantine facility close to the airport and an isolation facility at 92 Base Hospital have been operationalised. To cater for any over flow of patients many such quarantine facilities are also being planned for both serving personnel and the Awaam. The Army medical authorities are in close coordination with the officials at SKIMS and Health Services Department to ensure seamless and prompt action to cater for any contingency. In addition the medical personnel of the Army are undergoing combined training programmes being organised under the aegis of WHO.
All across the Valley the Army Camps have been organising awareness campaigns and medical camps to provide screening facilities, medical advice to the populace residing in remote and far flung areas of Kashmir. Proactive steps like distribution of leaflets and posters giving out various measures to prevent infections have also been distributed to the Awaam.
In keeping with its promise of being a ‘Humsaya’ and in continuation with its efforts to promote health and wellbeing of the locals, these are a few of the many initiatives of the Army to bring succour to the lives of the population of Kashmir. The joint efforts of all stakeholders will guarantee that the Awaam of Kashmir remains safe and empowered effectively to contain the spread of the virus.
