Gen Navarane reviews operational situation of Ladakh region

Leh(Ladakh), May 23, (Scoop News)-Amid simmering tensions between two rival armies, India and China, along the un demarcated Line of Actual Control (LoAC), Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Manuj Mukund Navarane, arrived Leh on a day’s visit to Leh on Friday to review the operational situation, informed sources said on Saturday.

He was received by General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC in C)- Northern Command, Lieutenant General Y Joshi, and Corps Commander 14th Corps, Lt. Gen Harinder Singh, at the Leh Airport.

During the meeting CoAS was briefed about the prevailing security situation in the region including recent troop buildup after a brawl between rival armies.

General Navarane flew back to Delhi late in the afternoon.

The visit came a day after India rebuffed China’s allegations that Indian troops had carried out an intrusion and held China responsible for thwarting the routine patrolling of the troops on Indian side.

India also endorsed that it remained deeply committed to ensuring India’s ‘security and sovereignty’ along its borders.

Sources said, the soldiers on both sides are demonstrating restraint and attempts were underway to deescalate the tensions after both sides inducted additional troops especially at several sensitive places including Pongong Tso and Galwan Valley along the de facto border following a face of between two hostile armies.

According to sources, the frequent incursion by Chinese troops to Indian side has a different reason as they (Chinese) are not yet reconciled to the construction of over 250 km long strategic road by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) connecting Galwan Valley to Karakoram via Despang, Daulat Beig Oldie (DBO), Shayok and Karakoram pass.
