Tithwal day celebrations at Tangdhar | | Srinagar, May 23 (Scoop News)- Tithwal day was celebrated today in Karnah amidst joy & jubilation while maintaining necessary precautions against COVID-19. Tithwal Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the liberation of this hamlet from the clutches of Pakistani raiders, who plundered the area in 1948. The battle for liberation of Tithwal saw India’s highest gallantry award, the ‘Param Vir Chakra’ being awarded to CHM Piru Singh of 6 RAJ RIF posthumously and to Lance Naik Karam Singh of 1 SIKH. Tithwal is one of the several model villages in Border area of Kupwara District. The celebration of ‘Tithwal Day’ is an annual ritual in the Tangdhar bowl. This year, Maj Gen ADS Aujla, General Officer Commanding Vajr Division along with Commander of Shakti Vijay Brigade laid wreath to pay homage to the Indian Forces and Awaam who made the supreme sacrifice to force the withdrawal of Pakistanis across Kishan Ganga River in 1948. The wreath laying was followed by felicitation of Veer Naaris by Chairperson, Family Welfare organization, Vajr Division and an Awaami Mulaaqat. Maj Gen ADS Aujla during the mulaaqat, complimented one and all for making Tangdhar a COVID free and ‘Aman Parast’ area. The event which was attended by civil administration, Awaam & the Army showcased the bonhomie amongst them which serves as a guiding beacon for many to emulate. The celebrations were not a mere social event, but a bold statement of resolve to jointly combat any threat to India’s national integrity and identity.
