CUK VC inaugurates ‘Hindi Divas’


Ganderbal, September 15 (Scoop News)-Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir inaugurated day long ‘Hindi-Divas’ at the varsity’s Green Campus here on Monday here.
Former Head Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir, Prof. Zohra Afzal, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz A Nika, Hindi Adhikari, Ms. Sakeena Akhter, and senior officials of the university were also present during the function organized by the Rajbhasha Cell of the university.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir underscored the need of learning different languages of the world in addition to the mother tongue and official language. He said that majority of the university employees have already completed Prabodh, Praveen and Pragya courses and were now using Hindi in their official communications. Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir said the employees have evinced keen interest in learning the language. He hailed the Rajbhasha Cell for organizing competition among the staffers during Hindi Pakhwara.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, complimented the Raj Bhasha Cell for organizing the function and gave a detailed resume of the measures and steps taken by the university to promote Hindi among the staffers. He said the Rajbhasha Cell is continuously organizing classes for the administrative staff and the employees are fast learning Hindi.
Addressing the participants, former Head of Department of Hindi, Prof. Zohra Afzal, traced the history of Hindi and said the language has evolved a lot. She said that at present 45 per cent people of the country use Hindi as their first language, adding, that the language is spoken by Non Resident Indians and other emigrants in different countries of the world and has become their identity. Prof. Zohra asked the employees to use simple Hindi words and avoid tougher ones while communicating.
In his speech, Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, said that languages does not belong to any particular religion, sect, community or ethnicity, adding that people should learn as many languages and their literature as possible. “Language plays a key role in binding people,” he remarked.
Hindi Adhikari, Ms. Sakina Akhter conducted the programme proceedings and informed the participants about different activities undertaken by the Rajbhasha Cell for promotion of Hindi among the staffers and faculty members in the university. She said regular classes of the staff was organised and examinations for the courses were conducted by the concerned agency.
Later Vice Chancellor, distributed prizes and certificates among the employees who secured first three positions during the competitions held in Hindi Pakhwara. Mr. Tabassum Imran Basu bagged the first prize of Rs 2,500, while as Mr Abdul Rashid Bhat and Mr. Muhammad Irfan bagged the second prize of Rs. 2000 and third prize of Rs 1500 respectively.
