| Employees with Disability demands exemption from JK election duty | | They face difficulties :Javed Tak,Disability Activist |
Srinagar, November 22 (Scoop News)- Javed Ahmad Tak,Social and Disability Activist today said that the persons with disabilities have been assigned election duties in almost all blocks. But the challenges faced by persons with disabilities have been ignored. They face immense challenges and have been living expensive lives. Persons with severe disability are not in a position to access common transport due to the number of barriers in the means of transport. Apart from their general duty employees with disabilities are assigned election duty which is giving heavy troubles.
In a statement Mr Javed said that the persons with severe disabilities have high support needs and cannot be reasonably accommodated in election venues; sometimes polling booths are too far that travelling there for employees with disabilities is cumbersome for employees with disabilities.
In a letter to Election commission of J&K,he appeal that in light of Rights of persons with disabilities Act 2016 a circular may please be notified in favour of persons with disabilities, for exemption from additional duties like election duty. However there should be a choice available for lesser percentage disable persons to opt for such additional duties.
