First ski course graduates at IISM, Gulmarg
Gulmarg (Srinagar), January 05,(Scoop News)- As usual Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) has taken the lead to conduct their first ski course at Gulmarg. This year snowfall pattern is very strange. It has snowed very heavily in all regions of Pir Panjal and Kashmir Valley but there has been very low snowfall in Gulmarg. Despite meager snowfall in Gulmarg Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) were able to finish their first snow skiing course today at Gulmarg.


In an impressive ceremony, Dr. R. K. Bhatnagar, Additional Director General (ADG) of Tourism, Govt. of India, gave away the prizes to the winners of different events. Seventy students from different parts of the country participated in the first ski course. Around 30 students were sponsored by Winter Games Association of Punjab. IISM, Gulmarg provides the best training and administration to the students in a centrally heated building of the Institute. Mr. J.S. Dhillon, the Principal of the Institute welcomed the chief guest and said that Institute has become so popular that there is a long waiting list of the students who want to enroll for the different courses of the Institute. Institute will conduct six snow skiing courses this winter and will also train some local boys to take part in National Ski Championships. Many prestigious educational Institutes such as Lawrence School Sanawar, CCA Gurgaon, Indus Valley Public School, Banglore and Delhi Public School, Srinagar have already booked seats for their students at IISM. Principal said that seeing the growing popularity of the Institute, he will take up a case with Govt. to increase its capacity of the institute and upgrade its training infrastructure.
Mr. Bhatnagar said that IISM Gulmarg is playing a vital role to promote adventure tourism in the country. He said, Ministry of Tourism is sensitive to the needs of the Institute and will help them to upgrade their Chairlifts & Ski lifts in the near future. He interacted with staff and students and took their feedback. Students were very happy the way this Institute is run professionally by the Principal Mr. J. S. Dhillon and his staff. Institute also conducts various adventure activities such as trekking, parasailing, hot air ballooning and water skiing during summers. They are also planning to celebrate world snow day on 19 Jan to attract young children to the snow. All winter courses of the Institute have already been booked in advance. Institute will also play a vital role in the conduct of National Ski championship at Gulmarg during the next month....
